Im running 175/65/R14 front 175/70/R14 rear. Cut and turned beam. But ive got to go a bit lower (so i can get out of the garage without letting down the tyres and taking off the skylight!) and narrower so im looking into a narrow adjustable beam and some dropped spindles.

2" Narrowed CB Performance Beam , With Adjusters
Dropped Spindles
Adjustable rear springplates
15" Splitty Steel Rims wearing 165/50/15 on front and 185/65/15 on the ass 8)

Previous set-up:
Front: Foksy adjuster on top beam only; Beetle rear shocks (Cofaps); 185/65-15
Rear: 1 spline drop; standard shocks; 185/65-15.
Result = bouncy ride with front tyres farting on wheel arch at every opportunity :(

Current set-up:
Front: Foksy adjuster on top beam and added Albatross adjuster to lower beam; KYB-GR2 shocks; 175/60-15
Rear: as before, 1 spline drop; standard shocks; 185/65-15.
Result = much firmer ride but not too harsh. No more farting :D

Front axle:
- Own build front axle, 5,5cm shorter with 1cm thick end plates, longer shock towers;
- Monroe Air shocks, 15psi = 58 cm road to under arch/ 80psi = 60,5cm, 100psi = 61,5cm;
- Transporterhaus dropped spindels;
- Adjusters in tubes, upper tube lowered with two splines;
- Porsche 944 disk brakes, GolfII servo, Porsche 944 mastercylinder;
- Gasburner wheels brand: JGE, 15inch ET42, 175/65/15 tires, Firestone;

Rear axle:
- Horse Shoe plates, 49 cm road to under arch;
- Porsche 944 disk brakes;

Do you know what type of BRM's you're running? I've got a set of MWS which I'll be fitting to my '71 before too long and want to fit a decent width tyre without rubbing. Would have to be a profile to match original though so top-speed gearing is correct.

on mws brm reps 5.5

Great! Bet the 195's were a squeeze under the arch? I've just trial fitted a scrapped 185/65/15 on a MWS BRM 5.5 to see what clearence I've got with a 185...and not much. Engine and gearbox are out at the moment though, so difficult to tell for sure as the tops will tuck in a bit. Those BRM's do have quite a off-set (E6) compared to stock. Did you have trouble with the studs/nuts too...or is it different on a '68? My MWS nuts only go half-way down the studs so I'm looking to get some longer versions.

I'm looking to fit 195/70/15 on the rear of mine (just about as close to the original 185R14C rolling radius as you can get) and 185/65/15 on the front, both Continental Vanco Contact 2 if I can get hold of them (http://www.conti-online.com/generat...co_contact2/vanco_contact2_ps_en,tabNr=3.html)

bit of a squeeze i have about 3mm clearance i;ve still got camping gear to put in so should gaine a bit more
its clearence no less .like you say engine and box will lay the top of the wheel in

studs were the longer type
ps.
when i let the jack down tyre did catch the arch but once it was down it was clear :oops:
