Might be a bit of a daft one this but how many of you EB drivers actually use their roof racks?

I've just bought a radio flyer and am going to have to use the westy roof rack to transport it to shows but am wondering how I'll actually get it up and down and secured. Is the easiest way through the pop top of or there an easier method ?

I wind down the widow open the door and scale the side

Mmm, racks on the back of a westy though so I'd have go be pretty athletic (which ain't the case)

BEWARE bungee cords, seriously, I have the scar to prove it !!,!!!!
& what I think is a bit of cheek bone floating round in my skin!!!
But I was lucky it was my cheekbone not my eye!?!?

Possibly may not be bone, might just be a random lump, but that doesn't sound very dramatic does it??

Oh & on my dad westy when we were younger, he used to pop the top up. Stand on the seat, Unzip the back & get stuff off that way.

That's my plan at the mo although as you know the Radio Flyers aren't small! I was also thinking about ratchet straps rather than bungees and you might now just have persuaded me :D

I have screwed a piece of wood to the bottom of a milk crate.
Use the crate to carry stuff in and turn it over when getting up to roof rack. :)

:D :D :D

I always use my Westy rack. Load it via the back seat through the vent section. Perfect :)

I'd be lost without mine!

Bungies and small ratchet straps used by sharp people work just fine ;) ..... also have a webbing net.

Could do with a larger one now..... or a trailer!

Got a Doormy, with the rack at the back. Luckily I am 6ft and can get to it if I use the rear bumper as a step.

Rack came in handy for this years trip to France. Four adults along with awning and all the other camping stuff.

Yep mine gets used, normally fully loaded. I have an icey tek cool box that I use as a step to load stuff on.

As lee said be careful with bungy cords. I put a dent in my bus when one pinged off. Thankfully that was pre restoration. I know use the nylon straps. Mush much much safer.

hiya
got a ladder that fits the guttering,

£60 from Sanford Hall show made by same guy who builds and sells the cheep roof racks

another photo showing fitted to mine and to Foz's bus

use mine all the time

I've got a roof bag that will take loads of stuff and has it's own sewn on straps.

lol...3 surfboards on the other side too :) don't know how we'd manage without it. Keeps the kids amused too when it's unloaded on the campsite, they sit up there playing for ages...

I use my rack all the time, I've got an old travel trunk that gets bolted to the rack for camping trips and acts as a roof box then the wagon on the otherside
I brought a small set of wooden step ladders to be able to get up to the rack but after seeing the ladder that dodge6x6 and foz have got I might have to get one

I've just extended mine 4mm so I can fit my barbeque box onto it :)
Although the van isn't driving yet, roof rack will be home at first to the spare wheel and the barbeque. In time it'll become full length, and will be home to a roof tent.

i limbo along the gutter  ..i use them waterproof sausage bags from aldi and a camo net to secure it all down

when i cant climb up anymore i will buy a t5    (as if) till then its sliding door open onto seat onto walkthourgh and up along gutter
