Graham please teach me oh master
I've got 185/r14 on the rear and I have to let the air out and pry them out
I'm one spline down with horseshoe plates off lowerlight and I'm gonna be putting my newly painted steelies on but not sure wether to change tyre size

Mark(still with that damn neg camber )

Your one spline down and Horseshoe plates is the problem there, its ok with no spline drop as all my buses have been but with a one spline and horseshoes you'll never do it sorry,

Don't think removing the bottom shock mount will make any difference as the trailing arm will be held by the stop but will get rid of your one spline drop so might work,

Just thinking its going to be harder to get the later wheels off than the wide fives as the hub bolt gets in the way :0/

Possibly but 71MY on flared wheel arches make it a lot easier anyway, on the flat rolled lip of the 68 -70MY its a lot harder but possible.

Fresh picture from today with wide 5 wheels, horseshoe plates and flat rear arches

So what's the mysterious technique Gray? You didn't say yet...

You're right it's the splines that does it as you have to prise the springplate down which ain't easy. The simple answer is get wallet out for adjustable springplates, but you'll still have to release the bottom shock mount.

I'll be at Dubfeeeze if your there and you get 5mins and you happen to see a saggy rear end on a superviking crossover and you might want to have a quick gander under the back end maybe, you may see something obvious I'm missing :?

no one is happy with grinding the little lug away, but when you do it sits on the remaining stuff anyway, and i aint going jumping bridges so unless i want the wheel off it aint gunna be that high off the ground

With that done i can get a standard 5.5j wheel running a 205/70x14 trye off easily. Just tilt the top in, and then it slides out at an angle

Hi Mark
I'm going to Dubfreeze to meet a few people, also happy to have a look whilst I'm there and see if theres anything obvious, feel free to call me on Sunday 07748 908905 and if I'm still around I'll come and have a look,

Shit
I presume there was a bit of slack in that axle zed bet he had no negative camber though

Graham
Yeah that would be great if you have a chance will you be set up by the main entrance again

Hmmmmm even with that stop gone I still have to let the tire down to get the wheel back on damit

Well that was a waist of time
I ground the lip back then disconnected my shock and still can't get them off
Stanley knife it is then

By the way how do you measure your correct shock length is it when it's down on the ground mount to mount or when it's jacked up
Cos when I took my shock off it looked a good 4" too long and I had to really compress it to get it back on

mine is down a combination of inner and outter splines with horse shoes, running gasburners 185/65/15 tyres

to remove the rear wheels i have to remove the bottom shock mount and slacken the torsion covers and pry the spring plate out far enough to clear the casting, then with a normal jack (as found in the boot of a MK1 golf!!) fitted inbetween the bump stop mounts (i dont have any bump stops on mine!) i can then open the jack which pushes the spring plate/wheel down thus giving enough clearance to remove the wheels.

Bloody hell it might be easier letting the air out

I don't carry a spare so just a couple of cans of tyre weld but now I'm thinking it might be best just to go back up one spline sod it

Hi Mark.....How did you get the wheels on in the first place :?:

With one spline and Horseshoes ,185/65/14 tyres on standard rims 5x112 and the bottom shock bolt removed you can get these on/off quite easy with the spring plate stop ground off....185/14s wouldn't go on my van.....Dave

Hi Dave thanks for the reply
I had to deflate the tyre to get em on a real pain
I'll go for the 185/65/14 then if they go on I think I'll change my shocks too

Mark

Mine were a nightmare to get back on, think I have comedy balloon tires!!

Forgot to ask do you have to notch anything if your just fitting horseshoe plates ??
