dropped the rear vanlance. to get a closer look. Changed the condencer, set the timing (checked it 3 times) went through all the wiring. checked all the all the HT leeds and conection. checked for air leaks. spark plugs out cleaned, checked the points gap, a tad of wd40 on all the connections and a known working carb ? it's all new and all set up ? must be something small, just need to find.
drained some fuel out when I got it but it was clean so after about 5L I stopped. Put a in line fuel filter. added 2 bottles of redex and filled it with clean petrol. I've only visually looks for air leak and made sure all fixings are tight

Try the petrol cut off value on the side of the carb.. Take the power lead off,but touch the lead back on it should click,if it doesn't it's knackered..

Well for starters Ash turn that shit music off ;)

Are you 100% sure its not sucking air? Throttle shaft bushes might be kippered if it's a used carb, it could be a dodgy gasket and are the rubber boots on the intake manifold good? Those things are the bane of my life

Plus are the valves correctly adjusted?

hope you sort it dood :(

had another 20 mins. The solenoid wasn't working so swapped it for a working one. Couldn't find any leaks and all the rubber looks good and tight. it was almost running on idle. Bit off popping/back firing. I haven't checked to valve adjustment. I'll check that next. thanks young man :D is it easy. I have manuals I'll have a read

check the air corrector jet as well ,if thats blocked it wont let air into the idle circuit.have you tryed opening the idle mixture screw????(i dont think your that dumb but had to ask)some times there can be a build up of crap on the screw.

it all a bit strange. The carb came off a bus running really well. Took it off a few days later fitted it to mine. Won't run, but it all things seem to point to the carb. :? i have have gone 2.5 out on the mixture screw and 1.5 out on the fuel.

I haven't checked compression or valve clearances. So I'll try them too

Your welcome sir :) Yeah mate, it's pretty straight forward.

The engine MUST be stone cold. Turn engine over till the rotor arm is pointing at the no 1 mark on the dizzy, at this point both valves will be closed (power stroke) undo the lock nuts on no 1 valves and adjust .006 I think, check the book. Once happy with no 1 valves rotate the engine 180 degrees anti clockwise and do the same for no 2, when happy rotate 180 degrees anti clockwise again for no 3 then repeat for no 4.

Trust me, once you've done it once it's easy :)

Let me know how you get on.
