Just a couple of jobs out of the way.
Westy bed frame in, carpet glued and engine hatch finished.

Dash pod all connected.

Front discs finally sorted. Just waiting for the correct disc/hub mounting hardware to arrive.

And making sure the wheels actually fit before detailing.

List doesn't seem to be diminishing, but when Schofields have made the engine bay metalwork and seal channel for me I can concentrate then on fitting the engine.

Nice one sparkywig! It may not look it from your perspective but I’m just amazed how much you are getting done on a weekly basis! Really looks like it’s coming together quickly now. I just drove past Schofields today between home and work. Great guys, didn’t know they custom made parts though.
Keep it going and you’ll be driving this summer.

I want to get the cab area finished, and can't sort the steering column or horn connection until I fit the lower column shroud.
Which means fitting the cab carpet. With hot weather, contact adhesive and lots of things in the way I had a bit of a mare today.
I'm not claiming to be a carpet fitter so don't look too closely.

Still got the walkthrough section to finish, but I'd had enough for the time being.
Anyway, disc rotors mounted to the hubs with all the right high tensile hardware and torqued, bearings and hubs repacked with grease and all back together for the last time.

Vented discs! 😲 How fast are you planning on going 😀

Two steps forward and three back.....
It's been fighting me the last couple of weeks.

Having issues with the lower column shroud, so stripped the column out to replace it.
All back together again.

Front brakes complete at last. Brake fluid and bleeding next.

Engine time, stripping the old 2054 with cracked crankcase and converting/assembling the 2058 type 3 engine to fit the bus.

Don't think that's supposed to come out with the distributor.

All the exhaust studs are seized, but as I'm not going to reuse these heads for the foreseeable future they'll be cut off.

There are lots of subtle differences between a type 1 and type 3 case. One of them is that the oil cooler is mounted horizontally not vertically, and the mounting holes are 6mm and the stud is longer and 6mm rather than 8mm.

So, the holes are drilled out for the 8mm bolts and the stud is tapped for 6mm x 1.0.

Now the oil cooler mount is fitted I realised the cooler won't go on the mount. It needs to be attached to the mount and then the mount fitted.

All comes to a halt as my tinware is rotten, so I'm after a set of good og tin.

All looking great!

How was the service from these guys?
Am I right in saying you just send a photo and they copy the key from that??
🤯
No, you fill out an online form with your key code (usually stamped on the sliding door handle or rear hatch lock), pay the fee and they turn up a couple of days later.

Coming along nicely! How are you going to overcome the dipstick issue with that T3 motor? I assume it was destined for the square?

Yes, it was supposed to go in the squareback.
I'm going to try and modify a type 3 dipstick.
Try and get a T3 dipstick and engine bay ‘hole’ (where the T3 cap screws to). In principle, it should work. I can see it in my mind…

T3’s are the best IMHO. Engineering for practicality 101
