Eric did the 8.26 run on Sat which was so cool - I mean sub zero.

The guys trailer was all shut up, they called the class, the car was towed to the line, burn out, reverse, stage...BOOM

8.26 seconds later at the other end - I've got that one on vid too. Then whilst others are testing/tuning rerunning - Eric just parks the Bug up and relaxes! One run that's it - an 8.26 straight off.

That'll do, I'll be in my RV if you need me!

haha fixed!

that what i thought

feckin crazyhorse, 173mph in a bug and he was fish-tailing off the line too. i bet he could go faster.

Are they any good VW shows (with swap meets) coming up in Calif in the next few months worth attending?

Northern or Southern California? It's a big state! It takes 8 hours to get from my house to San Diego, and I live in the Central Valley.

I always check the show listings here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/shows/index.php?sort=location

This weekend is the VW Classic in Irvine, which is a huge deal as dubdubz stated earlier. The Pomona swap meet is supposed to be an amazing swap with tons of cars to look at as well, but I've never been to it.

I'd like to go to the BusFest in Vallejo, CA in August. There's a show in Solvang, CA in September which is supposed to be the closest thing to Bad Camberg that we have here in the states. I'll probably go to the Bug-O-Rama #66 in Sacramento in September, and there is a show here in Modesto that the local club, Wolfsburg's Wickedest, throws every year in October.

In the more immediate future I'll be attending a show in Oakdale, CA in July, which is put on by the Old Volks club.

Oh yeah and I decided I didn't want to drag those AC parts out of their boxes to take pictures so I emailed the seller to get the pics from his ad. I'll post them up when I get them.

Hey LEEP

Can you post some pix of your aircon stuff?
Did you get an overhead blower unit?

thanks!

Alright Betsybug, here are the terrible pics from the seller. I opened the box just to check out the condition of the underdash unit and I swear it looks NOS. I am hoping all I will need is a compressor out of a newer economy car and a bracket to mount it in order to get this thing working.

I took the wife and kid to the American Graffiti car show here in Modesto yesterday. It's hard to work on my bus with so many car related events going on!

Have any of you seen the movie "American Graffiti" by George Lucas? It's a "coming of age" story about cruising and drag racing in 1962 in his and my hometown, Modesto, CA. "Graffiti Night" is traditionally the first weekend in June right after school gets out, when all the cool kids shine up the rides and go cruisin' down the strip, looking for the parties and the drag races, with the ultimate goal of getting laid. :party0053:

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YOU NEED TO SEE IT.

Anyway I took some pics but I didn't go all crazy like I usually do. I'll put them up as soon as I get them off of my camera.

In bus related news I have been on the phone with GoWesty to buy my interior kit for the Deluxe. I'm getting this type of TMI interior:

But in this material:

I'm just buying the upholstery. I'll order the hair pads from Wolfsburg West since I hear those are made by the OEM supplier that VW used, so fit and comfort will be just like OG.

My door panels are black and in good shape so I'm just gonna leave those in for now.

I guess I'm just stockpiling parts so when I do get a chunk of time to spend on the bus I'll have tons to work with. I'm trying to take some time off of work in July, but we'll see...

A few flicks from the American Graffiti show:

Yup, lowriders older than '54 with the more curvy bodystyles are called "Bombs" or "Bombas".

I always thought the VW accessory craze had it's origins in the "Bomb" scene. It certainly translates well to the VW body style.

Finally some progress to report on my project.

My buddy came by last night to drop off the roof rack I bought off of him and give me a hand starting the engine in the donor bus. After several attempts, and replacing the carb with the one from the deluxe, we got it fired up.

I still need to fix the spark plug hole so the spark plug shot out of cylinder 1 but we're going to put a "time saver" in there to take care of it. I'll be pulling the engine next to replace intake boots and a number of other seals before putting it in the deluxe.

Also, my new rack is pink! It was probably painted in the 80's. I think it's a VWOA rack. I'll post up a pic when I get a chance to take one.

We call them heli-coils and ive had one in my bug for several years with no problems

I really like the VWOA roof racks especially on commercials, they are different.

I was mistaken, they're called time-serts, not time savers.

They're just like helicoils but a little more robust, here's a pic that shows the difference.

Either way, it's an easy fix, as soon as I get a compressor to run the air ratchet.

Yeah the VWOA rack I got is a half length, I think. I was hoping for a 3/4 length but it was a good deal so I'll sport it until I find a longer one. This picture is what made me go for a VWOA over a repro westy rack:

I also love this dude's stance- that's what I'm after.

Here's the Deluxe with the new rack. My buddy is looking into some hookups for powder-coating so hopefully it'll get a fresh coat of silver in the near future. I didn't have enough space to get a good picture of it from the side.
