cylinders stuck tight

trying to remove the cylinders from ny case they are stuck fast, i have tried tapping with wood mallet in all directions

looks to me that a lot of red sealant has been used when the cylinders were installed is this normal. i thought it was just a tight tolreance push fit?

anyone help me im really fu**ed OFF
