Rolled it out the booth this morning, I've got a few bits to blow in as I made some mistakes whilst painting but I'm going to do these after the rebuild as it might get dinked anyway. As its satin I can't flat and polish it! Really happy with the gloss level of the paint (30%) as it has just the amount of sheen I was looking for.

And today I've fitted all the glass back in. Windscreen just about fell into place, took longer to string it up and grease the surround than actually fit it and no whacking and pushing like a loon required! (Probably due to the windscreen surround not needing major repairs and the nice soft rubber from Schofields) Also fitted some stainless steel ventshades to the cab doors.

really starting to come together and look like a SC... 8)

are you leaving the Dropgates off?

Well the rear drop gate was missing, and the sides are all over the place. Not sure where to start to try and straighten them out.

I have had wooden gates suggested to me before, and to be honest I reckon this might be a good affordable stop gap until I source a set of stock gates, just need some ideas/inspiration!

Today I fitted the fine stainless steel mesh to replace the dodgy cotton fly screen

The boss' 69 Devon that was lurking in the background on the last photos of mine in high build is in paint now too. Makes mine look like a monster truck

Its crying out to be slammed

I can here that cry from it aswell

Me too, I can also hear my flatmate crying out "where's the rent for May?!" so slamming is on the list, but not in the near future!

sell your ass for the rent, spend the rest on beer and bus

Funnily enough she gave me a clipping from the local paper jobs section "People required for adult films - immediate start, good rates of pay"

Had a quick play this afternoon...

Cleaned up the cab, fitted the seatbelts, washer bottle and few other bits

Got my interior light fitted and working

And started on getting the lights all working again

Been playing with the brakes again today..
12072008.jpg

Powerade bottles have a number of uses, one being they are absolutely perfect for brake fluid. They even have those caps like a bike water bottle so the fluid doesn't leak out when you turn it upside down.

Had a play with the engine as well, swapped the carb again, reset the timing, and cleaned the plugs. Don't think these were helping things!!

Seem to have things sorted now, also seems like my exhaust is too loud for my phone to deal with

So went for a cruise up the lane

Just need to adjust my throttle and clutch cables, sort the lights out and we should be somewhere near an MOT. :D :D

Got full throttle now after making a new pedal linkage and adjusting the cable.
Adjusted the clutch but it still seems to be slipping a bit, will run it and see what happens.
Got the sidelights working again, still seem to have a short somewhere as the rear lights put the brake lights on, and the brake lights make the sidelights and number plate light come on.
Washed it down and had a bit of a drive up the lane.

Found how to make the quality of videos on my phone better as well...

Is a lot quieter in the cab if I had the window up! I plan to insulate/sound proof the cab at some point as well

Cheers dude, I'm well happy with the way it sounds. Don't know if the neighbours agree, the boss has just got his van all built up again and fitted his twin 34s and cherry bomb exhaust so we had the windows rattling with both vans running at the weekend

Rod managed to cure the problem with the lights this evening. When the side lights were on the brake lights would be on, and when the brake pedal was pressed the brake, number plate, rear and side lights came on!
After some tinkering it turned out to be a melted wire between the number plate and passenger rear light.

It's all getting very close now!

You're not wrong - this pickup so deserves to be on the road, just one thing though...

What will I read about when I get in from work???

You've done a cracking job!

;)

 Oh it will be roadworthy soon, doesn't mean its "finished"! (Is there any such thing as a finished vw?)

So bit of a pig of a job tonight. First had to wrestle with the steering wheel, don't think its ever been off.
Anyway I was trying to gain better access to my speedo, which has no glass, a snapped needle and doesn't move.
15072008004.jpg

Didn't fancy dis-and reconnecting all those wires
15072008006.jpg

Wound the mileage on my new speedo by disconnecting the worm drive and using the gold cog off my old speedo to fit into the drill. Held the trigger down with tape and got a cup of tea

New speedo in

Then had to fanny about getting all the dash lights working
