Cheers Burns. Its just to see if its the look im wanting or if ill have to go for the adjustable beam too

Please can I beg a favour from someone with the GAZ coilovers already fitted?

Can you measure for me how long your springs are compressed (ie. at ride height) and let me know roughly how far up/down the adjuster thread you've got the seats?

Ta! :D

These turned up this morning!

Will be fitting this weekend! I will post pics :)

Thanks Andy,
Thats what i wanted to see. A good ride height to get across the grass at the shows and not so high you can hide from the filth in the arches
Gaz adjustable coil overs, THaus drop spindles and horse shoe plates on rear am i rite?

Hobo :D

Looks good, are they still going ok for you?
yes, v happy thanks, put new wheels and tyres on today, so we'll see how that goes 165/65r15 to 175r14 (on front). Time and drive to Volksworld will be a good shakedown...

Correctamundo (and narrowed beam, not that you can see with fakey 'foosh' offset)

Ok, finally got the new shocks fitted and took the van for a nice drive out (200 odd miles to Norfolk and back). I can report back that the height/stance was not affected at all. The ride however was vastly different. I had std shocks fitted and the ride was the same as std (wallowy and soft). A full camping load and 2 people up front would mean that a dip in the road hit at 50/60 would result in the tyre rubbing the top of the wheel tub. Now this was completely eliminated and the ride is now firm/planted - not harsh in any way. I am very happy with the ride now (although it would always be goodto go lower!!)

Looking good 8) Did you go for 150lb on the springs?

Cheers dude, yes I have the 150 springs and i went for the 9" length.

Must say many thanks to you for the info in this thread and many thanks to Graham for the idea\investigation in the first instance. ;) Its made driving it loads better.

Glad to help mate, I'm just pleased it seems to be working for everyone :D I think I need to order some stiffer springs then, could be a job for tomorrow :msn4:

Great posts on this thread I have learned loads.
My bus is mildly lowered about 4" on beam adjusters with standard spindles, and down one spline at the rear. Having just had the balljoints replaced, the ride is now like a bouncy castle! I dont seem to have any thumping or rubbing or tubbing, and I love the stance.

I currently have a pair of new short kyb gr2 on the front, and am not sure if the stops are cut off or not?

Does anyone think that upgrading to Gaz Coilovers would stop the bounce? If so, how do i know what size to get?

Thanks

At about 4" on standard spindles, you're running at near the limits of travel in the ball joints.
This is why it's become bouncy now that you've replaced them, you're hitting the limit and it's bouncing back again - the old ones had probably worn themselves in and were giving you a bit more travel.

Don't think that the coilovers will cure the bounce as they won't increase the travel so the same problem will still be there. You need to either raise it up a bit or fit some dropped spindles, either way will give the suspension some travel and help calm the ride 8)

I would just also like to add thanks to GrahamL, 67westy and others who have posted info on here with regards to the Gaz coil overs, I have had them fitted to my bus this week and the difference is amazing.

I have just driven a 20 mile trip down country lanes pretty much flat out with out any rubbing... the most fun I've had in my bus for ages, this would have been impossible with the previous shocks without taking it real easy.

The springs (9" / 150lb) are adjusted about half way up and the front has been raised about 1 inch with this setting. I might ease it down a bit after my MOT next month and see how it gets on then as I prefer it looking lower, but the driving experience is brilliant as it is.

I think these are a must have for anybody going down the dropped spindle method to lowering.

Cheers, Andrew

great news - the on going saga of how to run dropped balljoint spindles seems to be solved.
well done guys 8)
