Looks good Simon, apart from the nice bits of rust, (Whoever thinks all SA and US buses do not rust needs to think again), hope you don't find too much more when you start digging.

I see the westy bed is an early one as well which goes with the rest of the interiors age,

If you need any gutter cuts etc let me know as I may be able to get hold of some roof cuts for you that are already in the UK,

Glad to see it home, always a relief to have it on the drive.
Are the pop top hinges damaged if so I have repaired a few if you need a hand.
Also I have a proper walkthrough that could be cut if needed, free if you come and get it.

Jon,
Let me get it MOT'd and i might take you up on that offer, dont think the cuts will fit in the mini (my current daily)

Yeah not looking forward to doing the gutters but they need doing although hopefully got a couple of roof cuts coming my way so might just cut them out and weld in new peices. This is the only bit that lets the bus down.

Just a quick update (no pics)
Bought the 1st of the parts i need so as soon as i organise some welding gas and some piant (well atleast primer) i can make a start.
Shopping list included:-
Near side outer wheel arch
Off side rear arch repair panel
Wiper blades
Clear indicator lenses and orange bulbs
Fan housing blanking plates and air hoses
Black westy louvre window winders (did i mention the van has 2 Louvre windows?)

Hopefully this will be enough to get it through the MOT and then i can really make a start of tidying up the roof / gutters

Looks like it was Perl white from new, then at some point it went green and then back to white

Rear roof cut has just (literally) turned up so hopefully sort out the MOT in the next couple of weeks and then get the angle grinder out

This will be a nice bus mate mate and im glad its gone to someone whos got the time to sort it. Ive had my eye on that bus for years and when i first saw it, it had non of the rust issues it has now. It took me years to talk the guy into parting with it, and although he kept it taxed and tested he didnt use it that often and it just sat on the road (under a tree?)
When i finally managed to talk him into parting with it i realized i just wouldnt have the time to sort it out for myself so thats when the gadget came on the scene.
It didnt have the sink unit when i got it and it dosent look right for the year of bus. Ill dig out some photos for you.
The guy who had it sort of restored it years ago with his uncle, and sprayed it back to its original colour. He had the westy tent as well but sold that to someone at his work (who incidentlys got a left hooker?).

If you could mate, i'm not a huge fan of the sink unit but from a few threads it does appear to be correct for the year.

Quick update (no pics though) car was booked in for an MOT but drove it down the road as yet to drive it and.............................. no power, struggled to rev freely, carb icing, banging when accelerating hard, coughing and spluttering (assume this is due to the carb icing) and generally not running smoothly so next time i have a few days off its engine out and strip down time (unless i bite the bullet and buy a 2nd hand replacement?) shame really as the plan was to get it ready for Volksworld in March but dont think that will happen now. So the new target date is Dubz at the castle in July (this is the very worst case scenario as we're going from dubz straight to Dorset on holiday :? )
Will try and get some pics when i strip the engine down but 1st need to make space in the garage  and then decide whether to stay single port or update to a twin port (depends on condition of the heads really as on a tight budget)

gutted mate - was hoping to see a pic of your new mot certificate

Still no pics only more engine issues
Spent another £64 on service parts (Plugs, points, condensor, leads, rotor arm, cap, carb rebuild) and its still running like crap.
Borrowed a carb and dizzy and coil from R73 and after swapping the accelerator pump diaphragm over it now idles sweet, unfortunately if you floor it, its still popping so going to have to have another play.
Managed to change out the CV gaitors on 1 driveshaft in about 1.5 hours with some from GSF, quite a good fit and not as bad of a job as i had thought, would of been easier with a set of circlip pliers but you make do with what you have, have ordered th eparts to do the other driveshaft (originally only ordered 2 but as i had the shaft off thought might aswell do the lot)
Promise i will get some pics up soon ;)

Hi!

You mention about the poor running, and the carb icing - do you think the pre heat pipes may be blocked, this would cause the carb icing? Have you had a play with the timing?

Cheers!

Have played with the timing non stop, luckily i have a timing gun with an advance dial so i can check and set it to whatever, the carb is icing but i have a South African Air cleaner and an aftermarket exhaust so no hot air feed (might look at getting a oil bath filter and swapping it out)
Hopefully got a compression tester coming my way soon so will run a few more tests before stripping it down if needed.

Thought it was about time i added some more pics, planning on MOT some time this month (just need to sort the daily out 1st).
Anyway i'll let the pics do the talking
