Youll need an alternator stand/pedastal as well. :)

Oh ok Clem.. I thought the alternator might fit on the og pedestal.. You might as well buy the blooming kit then really and just re use the og pulley for quality assurance. That right?

The stands are different widths. The one kit I saw was awful quality - the oil filler thread casting just couldnt be used, so we went og.

On both mine I just got an alternator and a stand and just then changed the belt ... simple. :) Everything else was fine and it all works spot on.

Oh absolutely !!

As I have found out to my cost, the pulleys supplied with the kits are total #$@# !

Go with the original OG one.

i just sorted me ict's last night, checked plug gap (brand new ones thought they were set from factory but not)three were wrong!balancing was ok so took to work today and no more spluttering, result!! just slight delay on throttle response, very small at low speed is this normal?
90% happy with running just wondered whether i am being too fussy or is it normal?

sharky

Having worked away all week I'm hoping to get the Dell's at least all bolted on tomorrow! Another no doubt silly question; there's no choke or shut off on these carbs is there? Soooo I'm assuming no wires required from the coil as per the Solex single carb? Excuse my ignorance

Correct. :) I wondered where you'd been - Looking forward to the next installment.

Before you bolt them on, you know you have to set all the stops the same...

Stops?

basic setings before fitting---unscrew idle speed screw(throttle stop screw on butterfly)till its clear of bracket then screw in till it just touches ,then screw in 1 1/2 turns make them both the same then when you fit linkage make the links fit with out opening carbs.when you set idle speed adjust both the same amount.all nice and balanced.same with mixture screws.

I'm not 100% but I think it's bloody beaten me chaps.. I just can't get round to muster the strength to get bolts/nuts/screws and the like off or on..
I don't have the best selection of tools but Jesus, some of the positions I've been in today!
The only way I can see me being able to do it is dropping the engine out.. Again.. Which really doesn't enthuse me.
I have ordered a set of M8 nuts with 11mm heads from heritage, there's no way any other nuts will go on them manifolds.
I'm really not the giving up type but... I might have to..

Pics please. ;)

The 11mm nuts will help, but I would just sit back and have a cuppa Sarah, take stock and have another go later or tomorrow. There's no point getting stressed.

I've got this far wiggy..
Nothings bolted down but it kinda looks right.. I think  I decided to stick with me dynamo for now. Put some new bushes in and will upgrade at a later date.

Problems thus far;

Bloody access to the manifold nuts.. I don't have a ratchet extender or knuckle watsit. I might invest. Ordered those smaller nuts so hopefully they'll help!

Tinware bending was a right ba*tard, but I got there eventually!

Actually when I write it down that's it really. It's just so awkward to get to stuff! I was thinking about taking the bumper off so I can get closer..

If I had a swear box I'd have spent my months wages already!

To get at the back manifold nuts on mine I found an old 1/2" AF spanner and cut it down
so it would turn about 1/4 turn in the space available IIRC I also had to
trim the sides of the jaws too. You will need vice and a grinder though to modify your tool.. !

Good luck

Invest in a rubber mallet for tinware "alteration", and a cut down spanner as suggested above is a bonus.
Once you've done this the tricky bit starts, balancing and synchronization. You need to get the linkage adjusted so that each carb opens and closes exactly the same as the other, and make sure you can actually get full throttle when the pedal's fully down.

Hey Cuz  it`s looking real good. As Mr Wiggy says, don`t surrender just yet, chill out for a bit and have another go later on. Top tip : Get some plasters ready, and if you`re finding that you is rubbing on something or about to bang into something (especially the tin ware), put a plaster on first before you nick your self, then the plaster will take the brunt of it ;) . Good tools are worth their weight at times like this. How long would it take to pop him out and slot him back in ?????? Might be a bit easier if your struggling big time  just a thought ;) And what have you had jammed in you ear and up your nose and scraping your wrist today then ??

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, There`s more than one way to skin a cat ! ;) 8)

By the way, did you check/replace the sparkplugs before fitting the manifolds? ;)

Yes, they seemed fine.. Haven't long been changed really.. I think I'm gonna have to wait for the nuts to arrive now. Can't really do much else without them.
Do people use a socket extender and swivel adapter to get the nuts on, or is the space too small?

Spent the last hour and a half getting one of the manifold nuts out from down the side of the spark plug.. Emotional.. But rewarding when I finally got it out! Damm it!
