Soz about the ticker problem - be careful dude :D

I would go primer all the time to be honest, but that's just me ;)

Off to see the specialist on Monday, slightly less optimistic than I was a week ago

Last night the filler was sanded down, the surface keyed and primer followed by topcoat laid down. My painting skills (read: patience) isn't amazing, plus I was doing this all outside, in the cold and wind.

Built up the quarter light after polishing the glass. Was so worried about cutting the seals too short it must have taken me 45 mins of on-off-trim-on-off-trim-on-off-trim  But I'm pleased with the result. Decided against painting the aluminium on the quarter light, hopefully I won't regret that once it is in!

I'm hoping that tonight I have enough time for a light sand of the door followed by red-oxide before beginning the arduous task of rebuilding the door. It's going to be a long night!

The plan is to go pick up the bus from Graham tomorrow

I won't go in to any detail at this stage but "Beamgate" was (and still is) a real thing! Needless to say I'm a little fed up with the front suspension at the moment. Not because of MEB, they've been great - but because of the supplier.

Back on all fours...

That sucks

Thought I'd better post on the thread, George & Casper came and collected the bus yesterday and made it home safely although it think there may have been some grounding out issues on the way home :)

George has been a pleasure to work for, knowing what he wants to achieve and prepared to listen to suggestions etc along the way so its a bus that has been a pleasure to work on although frustration and extra time and costs brought on by parts supplied by other companies

Look after yourself George.

Well done Graham - sounds like you have been a pleasure to work with based on this thread 8)

Good luck George with the rest of bits

Can't rate Graham highly enough. I'd send Roxy back to him any time!

After driving through some of the worst weather I've ever had the displeasure of being stuck out in (I had 2-3" of hail stuck to the bottom of the windscreen and the motorway was more river than tarmac) we got the bus home safe.

I may have left a fair bit of my new beam, pedal pan and overriders along the way :msn4:

I'm proud to say that this is the first bus that wouldn't fit back on Graham's scissor lift

It looks f**king cool but I don't think I'm hardcore enough to keep it running this low... Hitting the ground at 62mph (GPS speed I might add!) will make you jump, that's for sure! :? I covered my dad's car with sparks when that happened!

Need to get some new shocks and possibly some different tyres up front to help the ride out a bit. It will be coming up a little on the adjusters. Roll on payday!

Thank you all for the kind words. I'll leave you for now with a couple more pictures stolen from the Midland Early Bay Facebook page

Hi George

Yes I did think of you, as you and Casper left I got caught in that hail storm trying to get Callums Beetle back outside the unit. By the time I left the unit to head home the lane was like ice with the traction light coming up on the Audi all the way up the lane, the main road was even worse and I slid to a halt at the roundabout so god knows what it was like in your van with NO heating

Shame Casper didnt get a picture of the sparks

Sounds like a fun drive
Glad you got it home and does look a load better with the lights and vent in the right place 8)

What's the situation with the paint then - leaving as is or going for a respray??

I genuinely felt warmer than when I travelled down to see you a few weeks ago. Less draughty for sure... plus I had 3 pairs of handwarmers on the go (hands, feet, knees)

Heh, yeah... the paint... Red Oxide in a can sucks. It is unbelievably runny! We were on a tight schedule so I just painted round the aperture, complete with runs and streaks and not enough prep work. So yeah, doesn't look the best

But you know what? I can live with it for now. I have a few ideas of what I might do with the doors but a "proper" paint job is a looooong way off (bottom of the endless list).

Drivers door has original chianti red under some dark blue metallic paint. Topped off "nicely" with some random-rattle-can-red and red-oxide.
Passengers side is original paint [pastel?] white with red oxide around the window aperture.
New tailgate and engine lid (yet to be fitted) are OG paint [Niagara?] blue. These will probably get a dusting of red oxide before fitting too.

What you gunna do?

Good work Graham, its nice to know theres still some vw specialists out there who get the job done no matter what!! After being let down yet again I'm fast losing the faith!

George whats the point of nice new tubbed arches, only to raise it up?
Low and slow my friend.... low and slow!! ;)

As it sits there's no way I could get it to my allocated parking space at my flat. It would get beached within 5 yards of trying. I have to crawl in my daily (standard Clio) as even that can bottom out there. Complained to the council a number of times but nothings going to change any time soon.

So it's sat on my parents driveway at the moment but needs to shift soon because they're getting the front of the driveway raised slightly to divert water past it after the recent bad weather has caused their garage to flood more than once.

That driveway is sloped downhill with a corner leading to a flat turning space round the back. The bus can't get round that corner at current either. If they raise the drive entrance when my bus is this low it will never travel more than 10 metres

It might only need to go up one notch on the adjusters :msn4: Not sure... I have a few ideas but nothing concrete yet. Need to swap the spindles over for my other set, measure for some new shocks and get them bought and installed. Need daylight and dry(ish) weather though as my "workshop" is a sloped gravel driveway

Hoping to go to a local club meet on Thursday in it so if the weather isn't too crappy I'll try get some more pictures 8)

Heh, that would have been good!
Sadly not though as I didn't get home from work until far too late so didn't have time to get the van ready.

...we went in a Renault
