Planning on going away for a few weeks during the school holidays next summer and have always fancied Southern Ireland.
Probably get the ferry from Holyhead over and then.................
Any ideas?
Looking for atleast 7 days away in the camper (if i get it ready  )

I'm hoping to try and sort out a meet up with the eireball run lot for their annual cruise around ireland maybe get a few other busses to go along too....

then drive round to my millionair reli's in dublin and gatecrash their pad  not sure how my crewie would look on their immaculate lawn

I'm hoping to do northern Ireland coast road around July time. Gonna go for 10 days I think with one or to cottage / hotel stops to add some luxury :0)

Can't wait

Eireball is normally run in july or August (they moved it to August this year to try and suit more people)

I suppose it depends it you want to drive for a few hours every day or if you want to chill in the same place for 2-3 days at a time

I'd go North to Giants causeway and surrounds then go for Donegal Sligo mayo/Galway

Stay in campsite in Achill point E next day drive towards Galway on the most amazing Drive in Ireland (if its not raining) loads of small villages to stop in to buy bullshit and sheepskin rugs, leprechaun etc. or have a pint

another place Clifs of moher and Doolin

You could always leave out the North and head straight west to Mayo Galway direction plenty to occupy a week there with out haveing to drive for hours on end each day

ead about this in one of the mags recently. Sounds fun.

We are also probably going to Eire next summer to celebrate my parents golden wedding but also planning on a bit of touring so if the dates fit probably going to tag along to the Eireball. Otherwise we will be heading for the west coast, Ring Of Kerry and Dingle Bay.

I fancied the Eireball too - living three miles from Holyhead it suits me down to the ground!

These dates more or less tie in with my parents Golden Wedding celebrations in Co Cork so we will probably look to join the run for a couple of days. I've emailed for details of the route. Anyone else interested?

Ring of Kerry is good as is the area around Dingle, some good beaches for the family, we've got a place I'm trying to restore out in Ireland so have done a few trips. Beware the back roads are quite rough so not great for slammed buses.

Theres not many good irish campsites so make sure you do your research in advance, really nice site next to the harbour at Dingle and we found a good site on the outskirts of Kilarnney for the ring of Kerry but not as many sites as you would expect,

We're definately thinking about Ireland so might be a plan.
Let me know (or forward me) some info when you get it mate

If you are planning to go book the ferry well in advance, Hollyhead to Dublin Port in the summer is not cheap and avoid Fridays & Saturdays if you can, but you will still be looking at anywhere between £300 -£400 return depending on time of travel

if your up my way (and its worth the trip, i live smack in the middle of the 'mournes') let me know we can hook up for the best fish supper you'll ever have ;)

Stunning picture.

We're looking at options for the school holidays and as we're doing dubs in the castle (late July)we're half way to holyhead from Surrey.(either that or its north devon)

i would stay well south around the 12th July as it can get quite noisy up here.

Well it looks like Ireland might be off for this year, ferry costs are stupidly high so might have to look at France instead

Simon

Tell me about it, doesn't really matter what time of year you travel, was out in Ireland the the end of October and the return trip was still £300!!, and it doesn't even work trying to go to the other companies, its a bit of a monopoly with Irish Ferries & Stena Line being within a few pounds of each other whenever you travel,

check your prices on here http://www.aferry.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , ive found Holyhead is the cheapest crossing coming in around £228 return
