Hi,
my speedometer is not working. I first heard a bit of a rattle as I was driving along and next I noticed I was unable to tell how fast I was going. Has anyone replaced one of these before and is it an easy job and/or hints that may save some time etc would be appreciated?

Ta.

I would check both ends first to make sure nothing has come disconnected.

One end connects to the rear of the speedo with a plastic thumb turn nut.

The other end is through the left hand front wheel grease cap. You should see it sticking through with a circlip on the end.

There's nothing to it really. Read the link for problem solving ... otherwise detach both ends and pull it out & replace with a new one. Just remember to take pictures of where it's routed through the body & around other bits if your memory is poor like mine.

my speedo is working-sort of. It's reading is always over the actual speed (from the satnav) For example 45 when I'm doing 30mph about 70 when I'm at 55mph. Also the odometer reads too many miles for the actual trip by about 10%.

I am running stock wheels with KK 195/75 tyres. Are these tyres too small or something?? :?

sorry for thread hi jack!

Are you sure it's not reading in km?
The difference in rolling circumference between your tyres and stock 185C14 is only 10.56mm, so theoretically when your speedo reads 70mph you're actually doing 69.62mph.

Sparkywig, The speedo is in MPH. It's something that has baffled me for a while now as I thought that the tyres were not that much different. I have checked the connection of the speedo cable at both ends and it is connected.

It sounds like your speedo needs recalibration. Have a read through this, give it a try and let us know how it goes!
