looking at buying a tablet, Ipad Blackberry etc. Ipad seems the obvious choice but i would then be tied to Apple. Saw a Blackberry Tablet today and it looked pretty good, did what i needed it to do i,e play dvd read books get on the net etc. I am not really up on this sort of stuff so advice please.

I use a Samsung galaxy phone. The Samsung tablets are very similar. Apple r very good but like u say u r tied to apple. Apple tabs don't have any ports to up / download from what I've been told but a Samsung Samsung tab will have options to up and download stuff via usb so u can connect to yr laptop etc
Im thinking ov getting a 10" tab for the back of my panel van for the kids ( no windows ! )
Ill prob go for a 10 " Samsung tablet

my exact thought process, i have an I Phone and i like it loads. But i want the ease of being able to upload stuff from my laptop chuck the tablet in the van so we can use it to watch stuff at night. also the wife can not do without the stupid card games you get on your pc. To the point that the left mouse button on the 1 year old laptop is knackered.

ive got a samsung galaxy tab and the mrs has an ipad 2, there's not much in it really ! she did a lot of researching between the two before she bought the ipad and i must say it does seem abit quicker for surfing but the camera is *******

i have an ipad 2 through work, the wife has a kindle fire. i have a generic chinese quad core ztpad, and nexus, the nexus is my favorite.

Only experienced the iPad, but it is awesome. Never wanted one, didn't see the point of them cos of the iPhone. Mrs Barney got one and now can't get me off it.... :D

I'm responsible for buying all the tech stuff at work and we have to go through all kinds of comparisons and review procedures before we can buy anything. As a result we only buy iPads - as a complete package of hardware, OS and apps there's nothing that can touch it at the minute.

If you get 4 tablets, you could mount them where the windows should be and play videos of bushes going by at high speed?

I've recently got a blackberry playbook. It's pretty good for the money ( just over £100). Also got an iphone so didn't see the point of getting an iPad or mini.
It's well put together and you can sideload android apps. If you want it mainly for t'internet and films then worth considering.

As a family we've got a few Google Nexus 7 tablets and the unanimous view is that they're the best.

All the Ipods etc. have now been put to one side.

However, just because they're ideal for us doesn't mean that they'll suit everyone and Apple certainly has its strengths.

interesting thread, have been thinking about the same thing have taken the laptop away before now for films and stuff at night but is awkward to watch when you are in bed, so was thinking about a bracket for a tablet that goes off the front bottmm edge of the overbed storage in the back, when we are laid down a 7 to 10" tablet should be about the right distance away i hope. i am also gonna fit usb ports either side of the bed area to charge kindles and some near cupboards to charge phones and cameras,

i shall be interested to see the final score on recomendations, for me i fancy a kindle fire hd, it's android and if built to the same quality as my kindle ereader (had one since they came out) would be well pleased.

iPad for me. I cannot comment on all the other options as I've never used them, but thats because I don't feel the need to try them ;)

We converted to Apple last year and we are now all apple'd up and loving it. iMac, iPhone's, iPad's, Apple TV, an airprint printer and everything synced over iCloud. Easy Peasy 8)

The itunes bills have gone through the roof though

I would say though, if you are the techy type that loves trawling through millions of sub albums to change settings and actually feels the need to know how it all actually works then you'll probably get more out of a Windows or Android based system.

Had an 8" Android tablet in the dash of my car, very customisable regarding home screens and apps etc,had to take the sd card out to add music to it though. Had gps,and tethered my iphone to it for sat nav and internet on the go.
Now have an iPad mini in it's place, syncs over wifi from inside the car on the drive to my iMac in the house...can still tether to my phone for Internet but no GPS (I have wifi only model) you need 3G for GPS. iPad are quite a bit more expensive than the android versions, but already having iPhone,iMac,works perfect for me having everything syncd together.

Should also add it will depend what you plan to do with it. If you are going to watch movies and surf the web then you don't need the iPad.

If you are planning on doing much more then the iPad is hard to beat. We have 2 in the house, one was supposed to be the family one and one is mine but reality is the kids use them during the day and for holidays and if I am lucky I get to use mine in the evenings. We have a 2 and a 3 and the camera on the earlier one is pants. But the camera is a little better on the on later one (although not as good as an iphone 4s or a 5)

I use mine for everything have the word/excel apps, loads of games, educational maths and spelling games for Sam. Plus we have loads of films and stuff for the kids when we travel.

Great all rounder.

lloks like it is going to be the Ipad then. I have an Iphone 5 and wouldnt go back. The Ipad is triple the price of a Blackberry but i think the majority seem to agree they are the dogs

we have two Nabi Fuhu's for the kids. Great thing about these is they have a child and adult mode. so you can lock them down for the kids to use. Once they go to bed. switch to adult mode and is a full blown Android ice cream sandwich 7" tablet
highly recommend if you have little ones
