Currently got Red 9 rear disc conversion and looking to bin off (separate handbrake pad piss poor not holding). Gone down route of fitting alternative calipers mounted to existing red 9 bracket but the caliper caught the inside of alloy wheel so binned that off too. Dilemma is go back stock or seen Ultimate Engineering do a conversion.
Can’t find any reviews for Ultimate eng and their kit is £750 del. priced up all new drum set up on back incl back plate etc and I’m around £350+.
Not sure what to do???

Tuffy for sure. The conversions look cool as and rather funky, however, the stock route might actually work. Most of the time in your bus you ain’t seeing the disc conversion because you is in the van, unless you’re giving it a good hard stare because you had to leave it in gear too  If it worked it might be good, if it worked better than stock it might even be cool, but costing bucks and not being as good as stock is a bit of a bummer. I know nothing of this other conversion you’re talking of. If I was thinking of a different conversion, I think I’d be on the blower before I ordered or paid for it and I’d be asking for a cast iron guarantee that it would work as good as if not bettererer than stock before I’d part ways with any of my pesos collection

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,and explain to them, once bitten etc etc

What diameter wheels are you running? Ultimate set up will only fit inside 15" wheels. If you already have 15s how badly does the current caliper catch, if not too bad you may be able to grind some off the caliper.

I had exactly that problem, but seem to have made the golf calipers work on red9 brackets with some grinding of the caliper...handbrake now works!
Apart from that I have got other conversion bits of Ultimate and would have got their brakes if I had a time machine. Tim's a decent bloke to deal with.
Cheers Al

Got the mk4 golf estate calipers (TRW 184/185) mounted to matching carriers using existing red9 brackets and 282mm dia discs and the set up worked And looked great apart from the caliper fouling on the inner alloy wheel. Didn’t want to grind owt off the caliper plus I’d have to source custom cables so I removed the lot.
Swaying towards stock as then I know everything fits and is readily available. Never had a problem with the actual drum braking, only went discs for what I thought was a better handbrake option.
