I'm a self employed builder/landscaper. i did my aprenticeship as a chippy but worked for an old school builder who did everything. but developed occupational asthma and prefer being outside anyway. so mainly do landscape gardening now from design all the way through, with a couple of good maintenance jobs for bread and butter and the building during the winter.

that sort of **** really - hard work and my body is starting to fall apart, but i do like the freedom 8) and it'll do till i get a proper job :lol:

Mobile plant engineer, specialising in the big stuff mainly container handling equipment but also do steel handling and other specialist stuff.

Can be interesting at times but usually very cold, dirty and very boring.

We have had a few interesting moments down the years :shock:

Brand spanking new machine, probably £150K worth.

90 Tonne and around 350 grand, insurance companies etc are still fighting over this two years on, if it hangs around much longer the lads have threatened to cut it up and weigh it in :lol:

Yes, I bet it's not quite the same Doris. Nice and comfortable, but not the character!
I back onto the branch line to Fawley, so four or five times a day I'll hear the distinctive whine of a Class 66 trundling past, with all its tanks in tow, but just occasionally I'm still 'treated' to that lovely growl of a 37!

I'm a Toolmaker I work a lathe, a milling machine and a 5 axis laser cutter. Which is great as i can make bits for my bus all day. Only trouble is i have to work silly hours such as this!

I am the course director for the Masters in Public Administration programme at the University of York. Love it.

i joined the Army at 16 got out at the age of 40 and went to work in a school to try and become a Geography Teacher. I found that loud brash kids weren't my cup of tea, :shock: so went back into the Army on an NRPS contract. All the joys of being in the Armed Forces without the hassle of deploying to warm sandy countries. Although i do miss that. Main benefit? loads of dry storage and garage space to tinker.

I'm a quantity surveyor for a construction company based in the North West.
I joined the company because it was local to me but a couple of years ago I was running a contract in Blackpool and a contract in Whitby at the same time. The travel nearly killed me.

I'm a Remotely Operated Vehicle Pilot and Technician on oil rigs.
My job basically consists of plunging a big yellow expesive bit of kit into the sea and watching fish on a monitor (and the occational drill bit and BOP,) distributing downloaded films around the rig and trying to sound like we know what we're talking about when the Toolpusher comes in! (John the horse will know what I'm on about )

I was thinking B&Q when the house is paid off. :mrgreen:

I've had few jobs in my time, mechanic, builder/roofer, chauffeur, clock maker and I now chase Robbers around Camden Town in an unmarked Volvo and I love it, especially when we catch one!
I'd still rather be under a VW tho, that's what I'm gonna do when I retire, save old Vdubs like this one :mrgreen:

She's been waiting patiently for 3 years to be restored, while I mess about with buses and Robbers :roll:

I'll add my name to the list of "Oilfield Trash". I'm a Production Geologist working for a US company in Equatorial Guinea, west Africa - the place that Thatcher's lad was allegedly involved in a coup a few years back. Don't go offshore at all these days so I'm not at the sharp end like John the Horse and Elginbuslover and anyway I might get my hands dirty. I've been out in west Africa since 2000 but before that I was in Turkmenistan and Ukraine. Cut my teeth on some smaller onshore fields in the UK around Sussex and Hampshire and also up near Pickering in Yorkshire. I guess Elginbuslover you must work for either Subsea7 or Oceaneering? And John, which drilling company are you with? We have the Ocean Valiant working down here at the moment but before that we've had rigs on contract from Sedco, Atwood, Noble to name but a few.
