As I've just got a Disney + three month deal, I had a look in the Car SOS programmes on National Geographic that were VW related. Genuinely struggled to get through the 45 minutes - awful stuff :lol:

It always brings a smile to my face at 6pm. I prefer the Mike and Edd double act, but Ant Antstead is ok he could do the show on his own though.

Was my favourite car programme years back - More for the classic cars and Ed''s mechanical skills than Mike Brewers banter; Think I filled my old skybox with all the series at the time from Discovery channel and old ones on Dave? - Still like the Blue bug episode from way back when.

And there was the white bay panel van they did orange? Was an article about it in either Volksworld or Camper and Bus; Loads of extra work done that didn't get a mention in the show.

Enjoyed the US show and seeing the US cars not familiar with being worked on- shame about Ed and Mike falling out;
Couldn't believe the youtube vid of Ed telling fans to stop sending Brewer death threats!

Didn't think Ant Anstead would be a great replacement (watched him on that classic car programnme with Phil Glennister?), but actually Ant was superb; He did plenty of explaining of why he was doing what repairs. They probably should have done away with Mike Brewer at that point and just done a show with Ant.

Also one Christmas I'd been bought some of Ed's latex style gloves from his website....found out including postage they cost about £20 a box!

Anyway, reason for posting... *spoiler alert*...

Jump forward to this year and lets say a mates mate (who's done some TV work) mentions his missus is going to be on WD! So I remember having this weird conversation something like this...
Me: "You buying a car on WD?!"
Mate: "No - The missus is selling one"
Me: "What car she selling??"
Mate: "She doesn't know yet"
Me: "Eh?"
Mate:" Well the production company are bringing it to our house"

It turns out his missus is being made to look like the seller and that Brewer is pretending to buy the car from her.
I'll be honest and at this point, even though you know that parts of the show are staged, I felt bit disappointed! I wanted to believe some of it was real. Like all the episodes I watched before shouting at the TV going "No! Don't sell it to Brewer for that! He's pulling your pants down!" , now felt like everything on the show was probably faked on it, like you see on the US car shows.

So it gets to the day and they turn up with the car and:
- Brewer & co turn up and are quite rude;
- They also have setup on camera along the lines of "Is the car clean?" (she's never seen it), then show it inside being a mess and saying bet your house is a mess or something.
- and then Brewer with the " Hold out your hand...I just bought a..."

Think that series is due to air in the next few months?

Will probably watch it just for that episode!

Walt, that’s so disappointing innit. I heard somewhere else that the cars don’t actually get resold but was never sure if that was true or not, maybe they get sold back in to the trade who knows. The person that was telling me this was insinuating that there's a big warehouse somewhere full of ‘restored’ vehicles :shock: But I’ve also heard second or third hand of peeps getting some of these cars :roll: Hhhhmmm, which bits are true,

Yeah Ozzie it's a shame.
After hearing this I'm interested to know if anyone knows what happens when they sell the car; I'm guessing now that bit must be faked aswell. And like you say, what happens to the cars afterwards? Maybe they were already sold before any work began?

Maybe the owner doesn’t want to be on tv so they get an actor to pretend the car is theirs?

Watched it last night with the Merc AMG 55. Although I prefer a proper classic rather than something that’s 20 years old or so, I still enjoy the hands on stuff with Ant fixing stuff. Another thing that’s good is the way Mike visits some bloke in a lockup and they are able to fix a part and have great specialist knowledge. Better than just chucking it away and buying a new one. Last night they fixed the Merc drivers seat.

I can’t really get into the other programs on tv about cars though.

If, like me, you always wanted Wheeler Dealers to be more about the fixing side of things and less about the questionable buying / selling / story lines, I strongly urge you to try Ed China’s new show on YouTube called ‘Workshop Diaries.’ It is as close a show that I’ve seen that actually feels more like a home mechanic being filmed, but obviously with Ed’s wealth of experience, tools and a a workshop setting. It is very refreshing to watch something real-time, in which I mean that things like rectifying sheared bolts or stuck fasteners become a part of the show. I can’t help but feel that all these real-world problems that we’ve all encountered, get mysteriously edited out of shows like Wheeler Dealers. I mean, when taking apart something which hasn’t been touched for years on an old car, how often does everything come out with ease?!

My boyfriend can't stand mike brewer, but we both agree edd's a good egg. Saying that thought I really do prefer car SOS, yes yes it's all scripted and really silly but at the end of the day it's for really deserving people who love their cars even when they are proper sheds and wrecks

Slightly different topic.... I've never see bangers +cash but I can tell you that having been round the auction show rooms in Thornton le dale a few times that they are 80% bangers, the rest you just wouldn't want. It's a mystery to me... Do people really buy these things by looking at photos? In fairness though, most of the bangers do have shiny paint which must be worth something...right? (They just look different one side to the other)

I can't watch it very easily because of the slime ball that is Tim, everything has to be a joke and the 'tricks' he pulls on suppliers are so staged its unwatchable at times and in my view spoils the programme.

Couldn't agree more, I mute the tv when he is on, he's such a tosser - would be great if they would send Tim off to join the likes of Mike Brewer (another terrible tv person in my opinion), that way the Car SOS would be an even better, more brilliant programme hosted by Fuzz (maybe Elvis from Wheeler Dealers could replace Tim?)
