I leave for a fortnight in the US on Sunday so the bus has gone into the body shop to have a couple of scabby bits it’s picked up from stone chips and something opening a door into it 🙄 having them addressed before they get nasty in a few years time. I drive this thing as much as possible and I drive it hard so I accept it will never stay pristine but I want to keep it as nice as I can for many years to come.

So I’ve returned from my travels to the new world. Had a good time indulging in American culture with my family who live out there and in my first day home I went to collect the bus. Geoff has done an outstanding job 👌🏻

Also got myself some new valve springs, retainers & collets from CB performance. Upgrading to CB650’s, nitrous is hard on the valve springs as it makes the engine pull through the rpm very fast, so a bit of preventive maintenance and the stronger springs will be an improvement in valve control.

Looks great! I need a few bits of paint on mine this winter, a bubble on the windscreen and around the bottom of the Westy windows, I won't be investigating the copious amounts of filler on the slider and towards the back on that OS tho lol, it can stay that way for a few more years yet

I don’t expect the bus to stay perfect for ever, I use it alot and drive it hard so it’s gonna get bubbles, scabs and chips etc. I just want keep it solid 💪🏻

Went to VW action at the weekend with the usual suspects and had a riot as always

Crew chief Hector assessing the situation 😆

Crewing for Metal Dave right before he ran a stonking 11.3 @ 118mph in his street driven bug 😎

Ran the bus too. Saturday I went 16.20 82mph followed by 15.80 @ 87mph with the nitrous turned on. Sunday afternoon Imanaged an improvement to 15.43 @ 89mph. Track prep was terrible on the Saturday and all the flithy diesels covering the track in soot didn’t help. Dave struggled with traction on the Saturday as well, only managing 12.7 @ 104 but Sunday he ran 4 very consistent runs all within 11.3-11.5 secs and at 116-118mph.

All in all a great weekend, has highlighted where I need to make alternations to the bus over winter. Still very happy with how the bus ran, especially as it’s a fully fitted westfalia pop top camper (excluding the sink) and is raced how I drive it on the street other than the M&H tyres on the back. Although I only play at this I’m very fortunate to have the guidance & help from Hector, Metal Dave & Pete Engleloz at cogbox who between them have about 75 yrs of drag racing experience 🙏🏻😎

Have you got your Ultimate Street Bus membership now you've run under 16 seconds?
It’s under 18 secs, became eligible for that years ago 👍🏻 although Chris (mad dog) doesn’t really promote that anymore. His bus has been off the road since 2018

those times are nuts! Well done everyone 👏👏👏
Thanks, still want to get mine faster though lol

Dave’s bug is now tamed down to make it a bit more street friendly compared to 2017-2018. It’s now running a stout 2276cc, comp eliminator heads & 48 Ida’s and a healthy shot of nos, but before it had a behemoth of a 2724cc, Jaycee 51 Ida’s 12:1 compression, huge cam and heads plus nos 😂. He’s PB with that set up was 10.38 @ 128mph 😟
