there the "same" bodys just with 40mm butterflys insted of 36mm straight swop 8)

But... Don't you need a carb with a Venturi at least 6mm smaller than the inlet valve. 36 dels come with a 28mm vent and 40's come with a 32mm vent. My stock heads have a 35mm inlet valve (quote Walklet). So in theory and according to the figures the 36's will be better than the 40's won't they? I asked because I've read a million threads all with differing opinions Dave. :D I guess bottom line is they both work but I'd be better with 38 dells lol??

but you can change the venturis to suit engine ,the 36s would restrict flow at w.o.t(wide open throttle).

But if I can leave the venturis as they are in my 36's then I'd rather that than faffing with 40's that as I'm not hitting the strip won't be opening my throttle wide too often (pardon the pun)

I was hoping John could build me something that did this..

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=pGrq1ASgWIQ&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DpGrq1ASgWIQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But when he told me its cost him 8.5k so far I felt happy with my 1776

my 1745 has 36 dells and 28 vents - cannot find my piece of paper with jets at the minute - try the 28's and maybe progress upto 30's .

The 36's will work on a 1955 [just] if the fueling required isn't mental...

I will be running 36 Dells on my 1955. I got Eurocarb to jet them for me and here are the specs:

30 chokes
180 airs
9164.2 emulsions
58 idles
35 pumps
122 mains

The 36 Dells will flow better at part throttle so be nicer to drive on. That combined with the crank fired ignition I am putting together should make for a super smooth ride right where I want it 1K-3kRPM. I don't want to rag the arse off the van, 70mph is plenty, just want to be able to pull up hills and over take safely... It is all a case of matching the components so they complement each other and I think Sarah knows that.

Today I've removed the 1600 on my own. Flippin heck I'm not one to make a fuss but that was hard work on me own

The oil baffle under the dynamo stand should be fitted with the louvres down (yours is) but the openings should face to the right - not the front of the vehicle.

This is so that at higher rpm the oil thrashing off the rotating components does not get thrown up into the breather system.

Again, it will work as it is, just not as well as it could ;)

Thank you Trikky, I think I need to commission you to supervise my engine build! At this rate I'll only get 5000 miles out the 1776... That engine is now in a friends bus but I will tell him he needs to reposition the oil baffle.

Has anyone reading this thread got a pair of og cylinder head tins pleeeeeease.. I really don't want to fit aftermarket ones if I can help it. Are they really so hard to come by, I've been struggling to find a useable pair?
