Still running on 45 year old stock pump, with one of the cheap pressure regs that people say are no good.

;)

What problems were you having with the standard pumb with no regs? Running 34's Just out of interest

I am not too keen on the routing of wiring by the throttle mechanism like that - have you modified it since the picture was taken?

I was getting 7 - 8 psi on the stock pump, so fitted a regulator to stop the fuel being forced past the float valves.

Hey guys I have wired in my facet electric fuel pump using the twin relay combination as detailed here:

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/newlancsvwclub/Fuelpumpwiringmodifiedsmall.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However as soon as I turn on the ignition, the fuel pump starts pumping. Obviously I only want the fuel pump to work when the starter motor is cranking OR the engine is turning over.

My ignition switch is slightly modified, so that I have to turn on the ignition using the key as normal, but then press a button on the dash to activate the starter motor, but I don't think this is the problem.

The ignition feed is currently connected to the +ve terminal on the coil.

The problem must lie in the alternator warning light circuit, right? This connection is joined to the spade on the top of the alternator. When this light is on (during stage 1 of ignition circuit) then the power should be cut from the fuel pump.
I just can't figure it out!

UPDATE

I have fully tested the alternator warning light circuit and this is fine, it appears that the issue is coming from the starter solenoid connection.

So, I have a wire from the standard relay running straight to the terminal on the back of the starter solenoid, which always delivers power even when the starter motor is not cranking.

I need to make it so power only comes through to the relay when the starter motor is actually turning over...

UPDATE

Solved, I connected to the main power feed to the starter solenoid (the thread bolt) rather than the spade terminal that the ignition wire connects to.

It helped me to write down the problem on here and think it through!

Ah ok, how did you suspect this was happening? Was it running rough?

I am running a pump without regulater with 34's so interested to know.

Mine starts better now with this pump and its quieter than the CB one
If you've got Dells I'd use this.

Are you chaps running the low pressure version and not this one? http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=HUCO%20PUMP%20FP03&CategoryID=8&PartsectionID=18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My CB rotary has just packed up :(
