Removed my engine from my bus last night, tonight swappedv over the alternator for a dynamo - thought mine was knackered bu it turned out to be a broken wire from the ignition light...

I've sold the engine and i am delivering. Needed to load it into the back of my ml, no probs i thought, cant be that heavy i'll carry it. Needed to move it about 30 feet and lift it into the boot.

How wrong i was...

Fecking hell... If i can walk tomorrow i will be surprised.

Yeah you can lift em and carry em on your own but once you've done it once....

I usually make sure a mate is popping round these days - must be getting old / sensible!

They do weigh a lot, but then try shifting a Type 4 engine!

Amen to that, I just went from a '67 Split (roll the bus off the engine... job down), to a crossover with a type 4. I need to do oil cooler seals and am putting it off like crazy... the combination of this strange and mysterious shaped engine (I've only ever had Type 1 motors in over 20 years of old VWs) and the fixed (WTF???!!!!) rear panel mades me SAD and EMOTIONAL!

Dont stress too much bud, I did my cooler seals with the engine in place no prob.
had to take the fan and alternator housing out which I had to get off to replace the oil seal which was a bit of a pain but got to clean everything up.
Sadly I had to take the engine out in the end though as I found some other issues that needed sorting.
Thats when I discovered how much it weighed

I can pick them up easy enough, carrying it though, no chance
