Just taken the bay out for a quick spin, came back and noticed there is an oil leak from the oil filler, or oil filler rubber!!!

The result is oil is gathering in the tin ware under the timing belt getting hot and thinning and then dripping on to the exhaust.... smokey!!

I noticed the rubber at the base of the filler is gaping a little and maybe the jubilee clip could be tightend? Maybe this is the reason for the leak??

Is this a common issue, and what is the likely remedy, new oil filler neck or rubber or both...

Any one got any suggestions

Can you confirm what engine you are talking about? Is it a 1600 (twist off oil filler cap) or 17009screw off oil filler cap)or something else? if it's a 1600,do you mean the seal where the oil filler tube joins the alternator/dynamo stand? If so you will need to remove the oil filler tube from the alternator stand. To do this take off teh oil filler cap and look inside with a torch. You will see a special kind of nut in there which is round with two slits opposite each other. You will need a special tool to slot in there which is a few quid from the usual places and you may need to loosen some tinware to get the whole piece out as the drain tube curves through teh tinware.Fit a new gasket and refit the filler tube.

If it's the 1700 and it's leaking where the plastic part joins the metal tube, take the jubilee clip off if thats what someone has used and slide the plastic part off.Check the rubber seal and replace if needed. It could be that someone didn't locate the plastic part properly to start with. There is a slot in the metal tube which locates in a lump in the plastc part,it will click into place when fitted properly.

Hi it's a 2 ltr engine, although the camper started out with a 1700cc engine,

I guess the 1700 & 2ltr will have the same oil filler neck etc?

I think at some point some one has had a go at a quick fix hence the jubilee clip!

Its a good job all these little problems have appeared this week rather than in the middle of our holiday in a week or so! Touch wood.... :p

A 2 litre does have the same filler neck as a 1700.It should be fairly straightforward to sort it out.
