I just bought a head temp and oil temp and plan to install this coming weekend. What gaues do most of you run? any known issues with them? I read a few articals (after I bought the ones I have) that the head temp can be off a bit.
Keeping in mind I live in the desert and summer time heat can be over 100 as a normal thing.

VDO don't have the best rep for accuracy (especially the head temp and for fairly good reasons with that one) but have used them a lot as always found them consistent which is far more important! :D

Learn what temps they register when you know that everything is running cool and normal, then just monitor them and worry if they go above that. 8)

thank you, that was kind of my game plan, after looking at the cost of a digital head temp I went with the VDO.
The last artical I read said the vdo head temp was 60 degrees off at 300, so I need to find a base line as you said.

Another "HELP!" - have VDO gauges for oil temp and pressure. Oil pressure either goes off the scale or doesn't do anything and the temp takes ten miles to register and then says it's somewhere close to "tepid". Whaddya think?

Where have you got the senders plumbed in?
Oil pressure best taken off from the stock switch and shouldn't behave like that if you have (poss faulty gauge or sender).
Temp sounds like it's mounted somewhere with static oil (like on the end of a long dead end pipe to the sensor)? :?

My temp one takes a good 10-15 miles to start to register. Oil takes longer than water to heat up! Your pressure sender ain't right though, I have one, I didn't fit it but would a picture of the wiring set up help?

Do you have the right senders for the gauges?
There's a single and twin pole version of the pressure sender and they both come in 0-5 and 0-10 bar variants. It should screw into the existing low pressure switch hole
In the case.

Edit: The pressure is stamped on the neck of the screw part of the sender.

Is you van by any chance from RAVW? I put my new engine in the other weekend and had the same issue with the pressure gauge. Try swapping the 2 wires around on the sender. I found the gauge was reading backwards until I did this, now it's fine.
