Nearly 6 months since I did anything :( Bloody work.......

Did a bit - checking the nearside and removing metal.
Was hoping to salvage a bit more of the original metal but found traces of accident damage - ah well.

So a few pics.

Was hoping to keep the metal around the tail light but when I took the paint away:

So, will be replacing the battery tray up to half way then:

Hopefully over the next few weeks get to the point of putting metal back in - wish the wind would die down :(

Cheers

Another few hours spent cutting metal out......

Working on the rear lower panel - decided to retain as much original panel as pos so just removed the really bad bits:

Started to work on the nearside D post (is that what its called) at the bottom - not very pretty:

Then started to trim more metal/rust away from the rear - again trying to leave as much of the good stuff behind:

Then the missus invited me to the pub so that was as far as I got (all this in between showers too..)

Fantastic job going on there Andy, keep up the good work, look forward to seeing you and the bus at a show ;)

Great to see more progress dude!
Might be off to the next LVC meet, which I think is this Thursday - fancy it?

Looks like the weather is due to be a bit crapy tomorrow :(
It's every Thursday init? Not sure yet as the other half is out so was going to grab a few hours on the van.....
I'll give ya a bell tomorrow

More cutting and working out how best to get the new metal in.
Checked the offside rear to see what I have.

So - the rearmost post, bottom part well fubar'd:

Quick peek at the rear chassis (where the bumper bolts too):

The battery tray (well not really):

And the money shot:

Cheers

Nicely done. Won't take long to weld all that up with those og cuts.

Cheers mate.

So managed a few more hours cutting more rot out on Saturday and continuing to work out how I will be stitching it all back together... ;)
Started to remove more of the battery tray

In the above shot you can see the chassis being worked on - more rot...

Cut more out of the nearside as I found more rot.

Trimmed back the nearside tray also

Final shot shows (hopefully) how thick the filler was in some places.

Had a few more hours today (Sunday).
Spent about 2 hours working out what and how I was going to do it so cutting started.

Out of the cut that I had, a wasps nest fell out:

I then cut the cut down to a very close fit - plenty of fettling to do to get it to fit properly (hope to do it sometime next week):

Body cuts look good!
It'll be better than putting all different panels in, eh???
Interested to see how this goes!! :D

+1 :D

Whilst you are at it chap, are you going to make that rear valance removable? :shadey:

Cheers for the positive - tempting idea with the removable valance - remember seeing someone else doing the same....

What a warm day today. Sweated buckets with the sun beating down continually so ended up not doing too much - stopping every 5 minutes to wipe off the sweat and quench my thirst....

So, started to tidy-up the cuts to try and get a good fit - ready for welding:

This will take a bit of working out:

Tried the rear light to make sure that it all lines up OK - and it does :)

Workin' away next week so that is all for now :(

Not much to add (what a change) due to good weather and family commitments....

Cut out the area where the holes where in and welded in a new panel:

Not too pretty :

Tidied up and zinc primer on ready for a skim of filler:
20130714_175702_zpsd6bf3d8c.jpg

I have been this afternoon working on connecting the chassis on the off-cut to the chassis on the van.
Creating a sleeve to go inside that I will plug weld then seam weld around the joint - nice and strong and should look neat.
Hope to get this finished this week (no pics yet).

Cheers

Continued with creating the chassis insert, welding it together and giving a little spay of weld through primer.

Used an old off-cut of chassis then split it into three pieces then welded together and it slides tightly into the chassis in the van and also the off-cut - pics:

20130716_202743_zpsf7884f60.jpg

20130716_202755_zps533bb590.jpg

And in the off-cut chassis:
20130716_203056_zps6f57ba9b.jpg

So, just need to treat the inside of the chassis in the van to some rust protector stuff, drill some holes in both the chassis's so I can plug weld then, then finish with a seam weld...... Will make more sense when I do it :D

Cheers
