The problem with the set up in the photo is that it will create bump steer as the rack ends are working in a different plane to the trailing arms, the only way a rack placed there really works if its centre fed with tie rods out to the spindles from the centre of the rack like the original set up so the system using what I think is a polo rack is more in keeping the suspension geometry correct. They've been presenting it on FB for a while. The idea is nice but you're only bypassing the steering box, all the rods and other bits of VW hardware stay the same. You also end up with a rack&pinion installed sideways, with a protruding part towards the front.
The solution from the Netherlands seems more advanced, with all the elements replaced and the rack/pinion system working as it's meant to be: directly connected to the wheels.
Yes, I agree it looks like a candidate for inducing bump steer. I believe there are Astra racks that have a centre take-off and have been used on splitties. I did come across a 2005 Honda Civic rack, with central take-off for the track rods and that also had electric PAS built on to it……I’ve thought about that rack several times. If it worked it might just be the best of everything.

The only thing I don’t like about the “full” rack conversions is the use of a bevel box, I wonder whether say, 3 uj’s might be an alternative to get the steering input back in the direction of the rack. I know a few hot rods back in the day had quite a convoluted route! Seemed to work ok though (in most cases). I think every method of doing it is compromised in some wayThe popular conversion a few years ago was the Bedford Rascal/Suzuki Carry as that works in the same way as the one at the top of this thread, a push you pull me kind of rack.
Yes the Astra one Ive seen a few times as you say thats centre fed as is the Saxo/106 rack which I have somewhere as well.
This set is for bay bussen t2A and t2B, the picture is for T1.
I have order the set, Im tired of the original early steering box, and been driving with an CSP/TWR steeringbox last summer 5500km to Nordkap and back to DK and it was worn up, so hopefully this works.

Hi Skyggen, do you have your Revol set already installed? I have also been struggling with my worn steering box for a long time and would be interested in first hand experience with this set. How is the ride quality? Is it possible to still install the floorpan? Any trouble with the brake booster? This set is for bay bussen t2A and t2B, the picture is for T1.
