My wheels are a state so looking to either sandblast my existing ones (problem with that is with that is reliability of so-called experts around here and fact my van is my only method of transport and the time issue) OR to buy a set somebody has already had done?

do not want handpainted ones but believe these sandblasting places use some sort of stuff / process after sandblasting done? don't want to come across as fussy but offwhite/cream or silver only..... Oh and have to be posted! Asking too much maybe here but had to ask!

Hi mate,

i had the same predicament when i wanted to get my wheels powder coated,

so i bought a set of five , got the tyres swapped to them and then got mine powder coated ,
then swapped the tyres back to the newly powder coated ones when they were done ,

im the same and use my bus everyday so could not be off the road waiting ,

anyhow got a set of five 14" wide fives in good nick , £50 + post if your interested can send them by courier for roughly £20

let me know

all the best

Hi.. Many thanks for the reply. I can see this 'pass em on' working well! Bear with me whilst I try and contact the only sandblasting place I know. being female and you know garages etc could you give me clue how much sandblasting etc cost you? any pics of yours done and ones you have for me?

I cannot commit yet due to the sandblasting place / cost issue out here in the wilds....

Thanks x

what are wide fives???? Are these the normal wheels that buses came with??

Aaah! I have google wide 5s and although getting these would almost solve the issue what I am really looking for is the normal bay ones which I can then send to be sandblasted whilst keeping my van on the road until done then go to tyre place to do the changeover ...once only and onto the ones I buy. Then my old wheels would be for sale I guess.. Does that make sense?

of course I could always get ready sandblasted ones etc off somebody and then cut out one of the stages my end here (could be preferred option as issue with sandblasting here possibly) and all I would need to do then would be to get tyres off old and on new.

I was sure i had seen another set on here , if there still for sale there just up your street ,
look at A5H post on mon 27 august
his listed x5 powder coated wide fives with proper good tread tyres £250

You should need narrow 5's (5x122) as your bus is a 72, I don't think any are for sale on here at the moment :(

Rackhams who are on here do a exchange deal on fleabay.

Don't how how it works if you want them couriered and then you put you exsisting tyres on the refurbished wheels and send back your old wheels at a later date.

Cheers,
Rob.

The Zombi is spot on. You need narrow fives not wide fives because you has a 72. It`s just how far apart the wheel studs are, up to late 70s it`s wide 5s 205 pcd and after that it`s narrow fives 112 pcd.
P.S. if you gets your rims powder coated or even painted,,,,,,,,, don` forget to clean it off back to bare metal where the nuts/studs contact the rims, or else there could be problems

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Nothing serious,,,,,,,, justs the wheels can fall off,

If you are in South Wales and need a sandblaster, then drop me a PM.. I know a man!

I have a set of narrow 5s pending sale at the moment. If that falls through then I might be able to help you out....

Or try Danbury -you can get 4 new vw wheels in silver with new tyres on for £299 if you collect (this is what I have on mine)

ree .. May well be interested in that situation but I'm leaning towards buying so ething end of month now that I have spent too mcuh this month already.. So if available still then let me know etc

Thanks mattp - have emailed Danbury and that does sound good

had general quote from local chappy of about 250 to take my tyres off, sandblast, coat and put tyres back so I suppose new wheels with tyres MUST be a better deal and I' have 5 spare wheels to go into my shed or attic!!

Yes, I would say so.

The other thing to consider is if you wheels have decent tyres then they should sell on and this should cover the cost of fuel to collect or another £50 for the spare ;)

Nice guys but cash only and collection only (or the way it used to be)

I know a few busses running this way, just seems god value
