Where's the cheapest grottiest bay for sale?

Hi all After a few years enforced baylessness I am trying to get back into bay ownership. I've had one late and two earlies before, followed by a year or two with a T4 Caravelle. The T4 was reliable, practical but basically a soulless lump of plastic. The wife is less than happy about me blowing...

    Ambulance fans and overriders

The ambulance fans work well and come with the correct switch. £130 plus the post. The overriders are specific front and rears. The black ones are rears and sit ever so slightly different from the fronts. The black appears to be a dusting of satin paint which should buff off if you are...

Breaking my 68 RHD Dormy SORRY... Its sold

Got to make a difficult decision; I have to get my dormy project out of the garage to make way for my crossover, and as I can't find a buyer for her I am going to have to break her. See http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?t=16290" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for details. A...

    Klassicfab new front ends

I've just been sounding off on the samba about the poor quality of pattern front ends, and was told by the guy from Klassicfab that they are planning to start making complete earlybay front ends once the dies are sorted out. They have just started producing lower windscreen panels that drop...

    Front panel fun

So, I have the front panel prepared. Holes in the windscreen flange ready for spot welding, holes in the sides and top of the grill apurture as well. The panel sits hard against the flap assembly thingy and sits nicely against the windscreen pillars. It even fits nicely on the lower a-post. The...

    rectangular sidemarkers wanted

Hi all My crossover has holes where its sidemarker lights and front reflectors used to be. I'm looking for an original complete useable set, with decent seals. Anything out there before I bite the bullet and buy new repro stuff? Ta!

What's the legality of red side marker lights fitted to US imports? Is it ok to leave them connected up or do they have to be disabled?

    crossover engine tin needed

Hi all, I'm putting a 1600 twinport into my crossover and need both the front and rear engine tins. Does anyone have anything available? I'll need it posting to me as well I'm afraid, or boxing ready for a courier. Dosh waiting. Thanks!

    Nearside engine mounting bolt.... bah!

I want to remove the 1600tp engine from my 68 dormobile, but I've run into a bit of a problem. Whenever I have done engine swaps in the past in beetles, I used to remove the inlet, dynamo and fan housing to make access to the top engine mounts easier. You can't take the fan housing off a bus...

Then I will look at removing the red...

New (to me) crossover on the way!

After spending the past year on my back under my 68 Dormy, I have turned to the dark side and just bought a crossover cali import. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=220591268472&Category=18303&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

    Engine tinwear differences query

Quick one... What differences are there in engine tinwear between a 68 and a crossover? I am thinking of getting a crossover with no engine, and need to know what bits I will need to source to fit a twinport 1600. I gather some of the 68 bits that I have are difficult to get, so also I need to...

    Porsche 5 speed into a 68

Hi all I have been offered a 901 five speed and an early 911 five speed gearshift assembly; any pointers on fitting it? I used to own the box but sold it on with a job lot of beetle parts last year. Has anyone got a pictorial guide on how to fit one into an early bay? I'm happyish about mounting...

I'm deserting Shetland in a month to spend April, May and June in Gloucester while I am on a course. I can't get back home at weekends cos of the distance involved, so I will be looking for things to do or see while I am there (earlybay related of course!). My dormy is still a long way from...

    Going down....

I've just experienced one of the greatest feelings possible...... lowering the old bus on the jack after fitting dropped spindles and watching it slowly go lower.... and lower..... and lower. Don't have to worry about the dormobile roof catching the up and over garage door any more...

    Steering wheel recommendations?

Hi everyone My old wheel is falling apart, and the horn push is missing. It will need replacing shortly, and while I would really like a moto-lita, I have to keep real with the finances. Has anyone got any experience of these £60 pattern wheels being advertised on ebay...
