Hi

Just having lots of thoughts  whilst on my way back from Ireland at the moment and wondered whether there was any mileage in organising an EB Technical weekend before the season starts fully to help those who are unsure about working on their buses some help and guidance. This isn't an idea I've dream't up as I know on JK they run a 'Techenders' weekend and I wondered whether its something that we could replicate just for EB's??

I'm not the fountain of knowledge but I'm sure there are people out there who would be willing to offer their wealth of experience to owners who are not sure. Topics that immediately spring to mind are:

Leisure Battery Fitting
Electrical Hook Ups
Routine Engine Service
Different examples of lowering (Red 9 vs Drop Spindles vs Adjusters etc)

In order for this to work it would need some 'experts' to volunteer their services and buses as examples and other people willing to want to learn.

If I'm talking complete rubbish please say so, if not feel free to either offer your services or post saying what you want to learn. The idea would be to hold this in say March/April time so its not too cold to work and before the season. As regards to a venue I've just taken on a storage unit in Redditch that we could easily get 4 buses inside and able to be worked on/looked at if thats any use :?: (+ plenty of parking)

I'd be up for that if I'm in Birmingham at the time.

I've got all the equipment for routine servicing, setting timing, changing flywheel oil seals etc etc. if anyone wants theirs doing after Christmas...

:)

But be prepared for me telling everyone that 009 distributors and pancake air filters on stock engines are crap

:D

I used to have one on my bus  - it was on there when I bought it, and disappeared soon after!

Not talking rubbish in my eyes anyway!
Funnily enough I was going to pen a note on the very subject this weekend, more about enquirying does anyone know if such a thing exists apart from being part of a more traditional club setup. So its a big 'count me in' from me, particularly on basics. Its one thing having the Bentley manual and restoration books but putting it in to practice at first can be quite daunting even though in many ways I'm sure its just a big meccano set.

Cunning plan

Seen your bus at the KDC bristol meet once, looks awesome :D

If I'm in Bristol before the technical weekend wanna cruise up the M5 together? :)

Sounds great!!

I need to know the basics of servicing a van, particularly as I am expecting/hoping to do 10,000 miles next summer round Europe. To date I haven't even done an oil change, tho I did clean the spark plugs (tho they didn't need it) but I have since then put twin carbs in!?

Tho my MOT is due in March so gotta hope this doesn't keep the van off the road for too long!?

Thanks dude, i saw yours to in the summer don't you call it Frankenstein? That sounds like a plan can always see if some of the other early bayers in the KDC are up for it, old Rich Dagger is a dab hand with tech stuff.

Yep that's mine!

Some day it will be pretty (I'm just not saying which year  )

I reckon a few KDC-ers could be up for it :D

You coming to the Christmas Cruise? ;)

Hi Graham. I'm up for that.

I would be happy to help with, any stereo, speakers, leisure battery and hook up work.

And suspension work if the hardware, tools, space and manpower are available.

Could even do some work on the buses in your storage

Also what are the chances of camping for the night so we could get a few beers (spelt cider) in?

I'm excited now 8)

OK so a few people interested:

Technical Support offered by:
Jim (tofufi)
Jon (Faux)

People interested in learning stuff:
Cotswoldiver
Dubman 24
Benyon

Anyone else?

Camping may be difficult as the storage is on an industrial estate but may be able to park a few vans at home and either people sleep in their busses or we've got a couple of spare bedrooms that people are more than welcome to (as long as you don't mind the dogs and the kids) or could see if theres a campsite not too far away!!

PS: Jon you are always more than welcome to come and work on the other buses in storage, there might be a couple more by then, guided tours available

Nice one..

I must add that i am no technical Guru....there are loads of people on here who have vast amounts of experience but i am willing to get my hands dirty on jobs that i have done on my buses. It would be best for people to talk about what they want before we meet up so we can decide what is possible, what parts and time needed etc.

Maybe a Holiday Inn or Campsite as you mentioned....with electric at that time of year.

Such a good idea, nice one Graham.

Jon

I've been to the Techenders w/e twice now and have to say it's a great way to learn. Am aiming to take the engine out at the next one just to see how it's done.
All newbies start with the basic service but thereafter anything goes - at the last one in Sept, we got Laurie Pettit along and some lucky sod got an engine rebuilt by the great man!!
I may be able to make a day but probably not whole w/e, and have a pro jack, which you'll need with all those lowered EBs
gerry

I think this is a great idea - but I'd love to see/practice/be shown some practical body work such as welding, grinding, filling spraying etc.

What a good idea guys ..

You could count me in for some of that there learning .. Don't mind getting my hands dirty either .. and Im sure i could stretch to a few scoops for the tutors too ...

.. even if we need to make some financial contribution to cover the costs im sure it would not be a problem ..

Deffo count me in ..... please .. :D
