Engines in finally. Fitted my gauges, did a filter/oil change today after the seal failed on the remote filter and I strted it on the drive.

I will get some pics up at the weekend.

Need to make a change to the way the fuel line is run as the engine is looking nice and neat apart from the fuel line from the tank.

Drives lovely :)

Was it the cold oil pressure that caused the filter to fail?

Yep. Freezing cold oil... But it was the seal on the filter that went. Swapped it out for a fram one and job done.

I was using a cheapy golf filter thinking that i would save a few quid as i change it after the break in and again after 500 miles.

wow ! you guys are quite motivated :) been a while since i've been on the forum, but it is very nice to see you guys prepairing for Ninove ... with even a printed pullover or sweater ... damn nice ! will be happy when i see you guys driving into the ninove 2013 show !

Not much done to the old girl.

Well I have now covered about 400 miles with the new engine and it is running lovely. I have a slight oil lead due to a loose pipe (I hope) from the full flow and the alternator has moved slightly on its stand so the fans now catching. So I have a couple of minor jobs to do at the weekend.

I have also ordered a new external oil cooler with fav as my engine is running slightly hotter than I had hoped. But I didn't fit a huge oil cooler. Lesson learned. when you ask for advice on here follow it.

I have a stag weekend in bournemouth next weekend so I will run the bus down there to complete the first 500 miles. Oil change and then to start flexing her legs a little.

Hi J
the interior looks great and has given me a lot to think about with regards to what I should do to my bus. Many thanks

Been meaning to update my thread for a while, didn;t think I would be writing this though.

My engine died on thursday, siezed solid. It is currently at my local specialist waiting for him to have a quick look and remove if needs be.

Drove about 3 miles parked up came back about 15 minutes later, it started on the button, pulled out of a junction a little way down the road and it was if it was misfiring on one cyclinder. Dipper the clutch and it died, tried to start it on the key and nothing, just a click. Pulled over and had to have it recovered. Oil pressure was good, temp was good (hadn't had a chance to get got)

I had completed about 500 miles at the weekend so gave it an oil change, nothing was in the oil.

No oil was leaking (I had an oil leak from one of the rocker covers that I havd cured at the weekend) it didn;t go bang so no idea what has happened. I had used it at the weekend and covered approx 100 miles without any issues.

THe engines got oil in it, it's lovel and clean. Guess something has just given up the ghost.

:-(

Well finally managed to get some pics uploaded. I did this work a couple of weeks ago.

I replaced my sunpro gauges with some stack ones, no real reason I just like the lighting on the stack ones.

So took these out: (If anyone wants to make me an offer on them they were used for about a month and cost me £80 plus P&P)

And replaced with these:

And lit up

I have bought a new dual pod to mount my gauges, just not got round to fitting it as my cars down at my local specialists beeing looked at.

And my trusty Rev counter

And a picture of my lump in situ before the slight mis hap on thursday :-(

  ouch that's not good  it's a Steve strong one isn't it?

I was really enjoying this thread - right up until the point your engine went. I'm looking to upgrade the 1600sp in my bay and have been considering a steve strong block...

Sorry to see your engines gone south so soon. Hope you get it sorted soon.

I'll be interested to se what may have caused it as I am building mine up at the moment and it might help prevent a similar problem.

Good luck :)

Hi,

Yes it is one of Steve's engines. I am assuming it is a component that has failed as I wasn't going fast, I wasn't rev'ing the nuts off of it, it didn't go bang, it hasn't lost it's oil.

To give Steve credit he phoned me after reading on here that my engine had siezed apologising and has said he will obviously fix it under warrenty so I wouldn't let my engine sizing put you off.

The engines out and stripped and ready to go back, I will let you know the diagnosis when I hear it :)

J.

Hope its something simple and you get back on the road soon. this steve chap does sound like an ok guy :)

Sorry to hear this fella, been in this situation myself although (AirSpeed) the piece of **** that built my engine did a runner along with any warranty he offered.

Lucky you have warranty to back you up.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Just seen your thread. Also got a 69 Pearl White Westy on the way from Conrad, nice guy.
Like you, run it for a while, scraps and all and then do stuff over next winter. Be interested on what you thought of the CSP disc conversion and any other lowering mods. Got so much choice on which way to go I got brain freeze.

Liking the interior but I will be sticking with the Westy, cant beat em. Still cant believe you dump the old one! Didn’t get hot enough for a fan last year! Got to be better this year surely?
Shame about the motor, would be gutted. Keep the pics coming

Cheers

Lee
