Door escutcheons for early bay (1970 and above?)

Just bought these, they look great but don't fit my 1969 early bay ;-( I suspect they are for 1970+ if someone could confirm that would be great. I think they also fit early bugs and type 3s. £15 delivered

Get a battery quick release - NOW!

Just stuck my hand behind the dash to be met with sparks and smoke and melting wires. Ran to the engine lid and took me a while to find my 13mm spanner for the battery. Anyway, got it off and removed the dash pod. Turns out the main wire which runs from the battery (via starter) to the front...

Spring plate torsion tension when removing

When I removed my spring plates I stuck a trolley jack underneath and as I pulled them over the lip I expected there to be massive tension. When I let my jack down the plate only moved down about 20mm just over the lip! I thought these would move about 45degrees or something!? My only thought...

Rear adjustable spring plates fitting Q's

I have some transporterhaus adj spring plates to match my 3.5" dropped spindles on the front. I nearly have my rear hubs off ready to swap them out. 1. How many nobs do I chop off the bump stops (There are three in total) 2. To remove the plate itself (under tension) : From what I have seen I...

Removing handbrake cable from brake backing plate

I have removed my rear hub from my '69 bay. I then unhooked the handbrake cable from the shoe lever, but I can't figure out how to remove the cable from the backing plate. There is no visible 'clip' that I can see. I have seen this post which shows TWO pictures...

    Dropped spindle nyloc nut thread

Fitted my dropped spindles and the top balljoint thread does not appear to be long enough to house the nyloc nut AND the flexi hose bracket. This bracket has a washer which fits inside it and is quite thick. As you can see from the pic the thread is not long enough to accomodate. I can remove...

    Front wheel bearings

Just in the process of fitting dropped spindles and just putting hub back on. The old bearing and hub seal still intact. As I tried to push it back on the new spindle it got stuck and as I pulled the hub off the bearings were left sitting on the spindle. I got them off and pushed them back...

    Brake pipe

Just replacing my front brake flexi and the copper brake pipe is stuck solid in it and the pipe union is wrung off. I guess the only thing to do is to now replace the whole line which goes to a splitter under the front of the van. What's the norm for something like this? Can I just pop to a...

Fitting flipped spindles, removed stock ones now need advice

I have a 1969 Bay, stock suspension. I have some dropped spindles. I have removed the front trailing arms. - Is it necessary to flip the backing plate? - The leaves are no longer aligned, is it normal to tack a weld on the end to line them up so the trailing arms go back in? - I think my...

Brake hub - Ripply inner surface ;-(

I pulled off my brake hub to remove some studs and the inner braking surface seems uneven. Kind of a ripple when running my finger from the inside to the outside. Does this mean it's shot? The brake shoes look fine. I am wondering if I have done this whilst banging/heating the studs to try...

    Master cylinder pushrod bolt

After replacing my master cylinder I had to remove the pushrod and the special bolt that connects to the brake lever. This special bolt has broken. I don't fancy paying £30+ for a new pushrod but have no idea what these bolts are called: Any help for a replacement bolt? Its the flat sort...

Brake master cylinder repair kit. Does it exist?

I can't find one for my '69 Bay. It's leaking from the front. Happy to take it apart but can't find a repair kit for it! Very odd, surely I don't need to buy a complete replacement? Thanks

'Y' heat ducting under the van from heat exchanger rot

Just replaced my j tubes with two heat exchangers. Went to fit the flexible plastic tubes which connect to the 'Y' piece but my 'Y' metal piece is rotten. I can't find there anywhere new. Is there a way to somehow bypass this and go straight into the main long tube underneath the van (ie...

Leaky brake master cylinder on '69

I noticed my brake fluid reservoir was slowly emptying. Upon inspection I see that the master cylinder is leaking from the front rubber section where the bar goes in. Not really touched brakes before. Is this rubber piece available to purchase or do I need to buy a complete new master...

DIY Danbury pop top roof bed?

Has someone ditched the Danbury hammocks and made a wooden roof bed (similar to a westy)? I am sure I saw someone post something but now can't find it. I quite fancy this idea.
