Nice work on the front panel. I've spent more hours than necessary (I'm sure!) sanding, filling, sanding, filling the Squares front wings, I feel your pain/achievement 8)

Cheers - by no means perfect but on the list and until the van can move, it will do as limited space makes it difficult ;)

No van work in the last few days but dug out the old awning that came with the van when I bought it - apparently the same age as the van but not sure!
Not to bad nick, the area next to were the door opens is damaged and a couple of small holes in the side (oh and smelly).
The poles are usable (surface rust and a slight kink in on of the top poles but again usable!

Awning looks pretty good but it looks a bit too low for your bus ;)

Still in for going halves on the rotisserie as this will be the next purchase so I can get the bottom of the van done (remove old underseal and do any more patch work required plus replace all cables, pipes etc)!
Not sure now dude. got access to a 2 post ramp at a mates now so am thinking of just doing it that way :?

Once you're all MOT'd up you can probably bring it over [and I'll even give you a hand] :D

See ya in 12 months then

I need the rotisserie before the MOT to be honest

Bit more today - took out the battery tray:

Not fun ;)

Put the battery tray in to test the fit and no issues 8)

So - will tidy up the area and remove the protective paint and install soon but first I need to remove some creases and twists from the lower part of the cut as it will be easier while the tray is out.

Cheers

come on Andy, get that bad boy welded in! ;) your audience is waiting!!!

Yes boss - and what audience ;)

Took the top plate off the chassis as it was all bent from removing the battery try and this split the body work from the chassis at the rear of the cut, so decided remove it totally !

Before the seperation:

Now on its own:

Due to the curvature, decided that I will split the chassis parts and weld them together so they overlap (pics will hopefully make sense of it.
On the inside I will plug weld some plates so that this will also add more strength:

The areas with the black cross (on the van) and the pencil marks (on the cut) will be removed.
Anyone think it's a bad idea??

Cheers

Ask the audience ;) Audience says YES :) sounds like a good plan

Thank you audience
A few other people agreed so that is what I set out to do tonight.

First created an insert for the D post - here are the pieces (for some reason I don't have a picture of the finished article so I will have to see what I can do tomorrow....)
20140722_174145_zps6f1566bb.jpg

Measured 4 times and cut once and still not right.........

You can just see the insert through the D-post gap:

A bit more cutting and lines up ready for some inserts to be made for the chassis:

So the plan is to make the inserts good - drill through the chassis then plug weld these in, then hopefully weld it up......

Cheers

Have you got any cleco pins Andy? I don't know how I'd manage without them, they're like reuseable rivets. Pop a hole through both bits and they clamp it together while you plug weld it and then pop them out and plug weld that hole. Simples :) really effective :)

Looking good :)

Not heard of cleco pins.... - when I did the other side I made the chassis insert a very snug fit so I didn't need anything to hold it in and that will be the plan again.

Still working on the insert for the chassis - seems to take for ever but getting there.
Due to its curvature at the point that I need to weld the chassis together it is a pain to make but getting there ;)

A couple of pics so far:

Hoping to get it done tomorrow night then on Saturday I hope to join the chassis cut to the van :D

Cheers

Guess what - the chassis is now joined :D

Not shown to many of the welding as boring but a few after the welds had been ground down:
